The Propane Project of the Year honors the best homes and commercial buildings fueled by propane. World-class design, thrilled clients, and the latest technology? Talented pros like you show that propane can do that.

The prize

Grand prize (two): $5,000

The details

The Propane Project of the Year program is open to builders, remodelers, architects, engineers, and trade professionals in the United States. Propane providers can also nominate a project. Any project completed after Jan. 1, 2017, is eligible.

Propane marketers, we want your entries, too! The nominating marketer of projects published in Build With Propane will earn $1,000, and the marketer who brings us a grand prize winner will also earn a $500 prize.

Categories
The winner in each category will earn the $5,000 top prize:

  • Residential
  • Commercial

Entries will be judged for project design, project performance, and the use of propane to achieve the project’s goals.

Judging
The Propane Project of the Year will be judged by a panel of industry experts with extensive experience in building performance, energy-efficient construction, and innovative propane-fueled technologies.

  • Matt Evans is a building systems analyst and certified HERS rater with Newport Ventures. He has more than 12 years of experience in energy analysis of residential and commercial buildings, building energy codes, consulting, and energy/building science training. Matt also conducts energy analysis and rating work for home builders directly, works directly with architects and builders to design net zero homes, and has over 25 years of overall experience in the building trades industry including new home construction and remodeling.
  • Michael Anschel, a nationally recognized expert on green design, remodeling, and building, writes, trains, and speaks for various publications and events around the world. He is the owner of OA Design+Build, an award-winning, nationally celebrated design-build and architecture firm, and CEO of Verified Green Inc., which consults with local government, product manufacturers, suppliers, builders, and architects on green building. Michael led the effort to develop MN GreenStar and is past president of the national GreenStar Alliance.
  • Brian Brooks is the fourth generation of the Brooks family to be involved in the propane industry. Along with managing Brooks Gas’ hearth and grill retail operations, Brian Brooks grows and maintains the company's relationships with local builders and contractors.

Submission Requirements
On the contest entry page, a form will ask for basic entry and contact information. You’ll be asked to submit a project description of up to 200 words, as well as details propane-fueled products and design features used to reach the project’s goals. You’ll upload at least three photos of your completed project, as well as any technical design files you want to include. Propane providers will be asked to provide the name of the primary project contact (e.g. the builder or architect).
